Your Local Bestie for Amsterdam & the Netherlands

From Just Some Tips to Planning Your Entire Trip

Here’s what free guides wouldn’t tell you about Amsterdam, but a local will

Here’s what free guides wouldn’t tell you about Amsterdam, but a local will

The MuseumKaart
A ticket to see The Night Watch alone costs €25. Here’s how to pay €15 instead.

While you need an EU address to use the museumkaart for a full year, visitors from outside the EU can buy a temporary museumkaart at most museums. This allows up to five visits to any of the qualifying museums, reducing the cost to €15 per adult ticket and just €8 for those under 18. If you plan to visit many museums, especially high-priced ones, this can definitely be worth it! For example, a ticket to see Rembrandt’s The Night Watch alone costs €25!

The TikTok lines are generally not worth the hype
That stroopwafel queue you saw on TikTok? Skip it. Here’s what locals actually do

You can get equally good stroopwaffles in the grocery store or tulip bulbs at any garden center (for a better price and a higher probability of actually blooming)

Cycling culture
Renting a bike in the Netherlands sounds fun until you almost get hit by a tram.
Renting a bike sounds carefree and easy, but there are a lot of things visitors get wrong — where you can and can’t ride, how aggressive Dutch cycling is, and how traffic laws differ.
